The University of New Brunswick denied access to a blind student who wished to attend an English emersion program because he refused to sign an agreement that "all communications with your guide dog will be exclusively in English." Since his dog is trained to understand 17 concise commands in his native French, he didn't feel he could abide by the requirement.

The University refused to "lower a standard" and even refused the student's offer to speak only English, even to the dog when he wasn't using one of the 17 commands.
